Parent / Guardian voice has been an vitally important part of the Henderson School story. Dr. Bill Henderson, our school’s namesake, often described a school community as a three legged stool held up by students, staff, and families. He understood that for us to thrive, all three stakeholder groups needed to be engaged respectfully and meaningfully. If you have a student at the Henderson, we welcome your input and voice!
Below are some of the ways you can get involved. If you would like more information about any of these opportunities, please email hendersonparentcouncil@gmail.com.
- School Parent Council: SPC meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month via Zoom.
- SPC Committees: Parent can also get involved by joining the Finance Committee or Partnerships, Afterschool, and Extracurricular (PASE)
- Governing Board: The Henderson is an Innovation School, which means we are more autonomous than a typical BPS school. Our Governing Board, comprised of 8 representatives elected by staff (BTU), families (SPC), and students (Student Council), has a critically important oversight role for out school.
- Volunteer: There are many great ways to support the school as a volunteer. During the school year, parents/guardians have hosted lunch for Teacher Appreciation Week, sold carnations for Valentine’s Day to raise money (and school spirit), been chaperones for field trips like apple picking and visiting the Gardener Museum, shared about about our careers in our child’s classroom on Dream Day, to name just a few fun activities!
- Room Parent/Guardian: We are looking for two parents/guardians for each classroom on both campuses to help facilitate communication and build community.
